Solomon was about 20 years old when he began to reign on David’s throne and asked the Lord to give him a discerning heart to govern the people (1 Kings 3:7-9). God gave him wisdom unlike any other king or person and faithfully discharged his duties as king of the chosen people of God. For the first time in the history of Israel, Solomon built a temple to house the Ark of the Covenant and a place of worship for God. He was the most admired kings of the ancient world because of the wisdom that God gave him in response to his prayer. Unfortunately, because of his poor decisions his many wives turned his heart from the purity of worshiping God.
